Commerce Minister: Cambodia Is an Open Economic Nation

Cambodia is one of the open economic nations with many inventive policies, underlined Cambodian Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak here on Tuesday at the cocktail reception of Cambodia International Business Summit 2017.

“Although Cambodia is a small economy, the Royal Government of Cambodia has a clear vision and been formulated a number of policies that provide the most competitive advantages compared to countries in the region,” said H.E. Pan Sorasak. “Both foreign and local investors are treated equally under our investment law.”

H.E. Pan Sorasak also stressed that Cambodia is a nation with many young and dynamic work force together with abundant natural resources, pro-business government, strategic geographical location and preferential trading arrangements with major trading partners as well as countries in the region.

According to the National Bank of Cambodia’s report released recently, Cambodia attracted US$2.15 billion foreign direct investment (FDI) last year, a 25 percent year-on-year increase.

Out of the above-mentioned investment capital, some US$539 million has been invested in the banking sector, US$390 million in the manufacturing sector, US$370 million in real estate and US$232 million in agriculture. The biggest investor was China with US$748 million investment capital, followed by Vietnam (US$192 million), Japan (US$185 million), and Singapore (US$169 million).
