Commune/Sangkat Council Election Campaign To Start Tomorrow

The two-week election campaign for the Commune/Sangkat Council Election of fourth mandate will kick off on May 20 and each political party can make procession only twice in one commune/Sangkat during that period.

The National Election Committee on May 19 call on all election commissions at the 1,646 communes and Sangkat across the country, local authorities and political parties to cooperate so that the election campaign will be conduced in peace, public order and public beauty.

Twelve political parties � the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), FUNCINPEC Party, League for Democracy Party (LDP), Beehive Democratic Society Party (BDSP), Grassroots Democracy Party (GDP), Khmer National United Party (KNUP), Cambodian Nationality Party (CNP), Republican Democracy Party (RDP), Cambodian Youth Party (CYP), Khmer Power Party (KPP), and Cambodian Indigenous Democracy Party (CIDP) � will take part in this local election which is slated for June 4.

About 7.8 million � of them 58.3 percent are women and some ten thousands are Buddhist monks � have been registered for the voting.

In 2012, during its third-mandate race, there were 9,203,493 registered voters electing for 1,633 communes/ Sangkat of 11,459 seats.

According to the sub-decree for the 2017 local election, one commune/Sangkat council must comprise at least five and at most 11 members or candidates.
