Community leaders meet at dinner under UN auspices

Cyprus community leaders, President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, meet on Sunday evening for dinner at Ledra Palace, under the auspices of the UNSG Envoy Espen Barth Eide. The two negotiators Andreas Mavroyiannis and Ozdil Nami and the UN Secretary Generals Special Representative in Cyprus Elisabeth Spehar will also attend the dinner.

This is the first time the two leaders will meet, after the talks were suspended when Akinci walked out of a meeting in mid February, claiming that a House decision to commemorate, briefly, in school a 1950 referendum advocating union with Greece was a shift in the long standing position of the Greek Cypriot side for a bicommunal, bizonal federal solution in Cyprus.
