Deadline for Private Institutions’ Employment of People with Disabilities

Private institutions will have six more months to fulfill the requirement of recruiting persons with disabilities if not they will be fined.

The information was shared by H.E. Em Chan Makara, Secretary General of the Disability Action Council (DAC), while presiding over the dissemination workshop of sub-decree on employment rate of people with disabilities in the private sector, at Tonle Bassac II Restaurant, Phnom Penh yesterday, with the participation of around 150 national and international guests and representatives of companies, factories and enterprises.

Private sector whose staff is more than 100 have to employ at least a person with disability while the public sector is required to recruit at least two, said the sub-decree.

There are more than 350,000 people with disabilities in Cambodia. By 2016, state ministries and institutions have employed about 2,300 of them, equal to 1.7 percent.
