Discussion on Cambodia’s Port Development

Cambodia and Japan have co-organised a discussion here in Phnom Penh among experts to further improve the Kingdom's port services.

Ministry of Public Works and Transport represented Cambodian side at the seminar held yesterday to share lessons learned with delegates of Japan Overseas Ports Cooperation Association (JOPCA).

According to the ministry's Deputy Director General of Waterway-Maritime Transport and Port Department, The discussion played an important role in increasing Cambodian ports' handling capacity.

It also looked into management capacity of the ports at Phnom Penh, Preah Sinanouk as well as other ports that contribute significantly to the country's economic development, he added.

President of JOPCA Mr. Tatsuhiko Ideda expressed his optimism that by addressing emerging port issues in terms of its services and management using experience from Japan, it will benefit Cambodia economically.

The discussion was the second of its kind, following the first one organised back in 2014.
