DPM PRAK Sokhonn: Cambodia-ROK FTA to Further Enhance Healthy Bilateral Economic Cooperation

The Cambodia-Republic of Korea (ROK) Free Trade Agreement that has entered into force on Dec. 1 this year, will further enhance the current healthy bilateral economic cooperation, particularly on trade and investment.
The expectation was made by H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, while receiving a farewell visit from outgoing ROK Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. PARK Heung-kyeong i. n Phnom Penh this morning, according to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
On the occasion, the Cambodian Deputy PM hailed the achievements registered during Ambassador PARK Heung-kyeong’s tenure, and praised the contribution made by the Envoy in strengthening the relations and cooperation between both nations.
Both sides recalled the exchange of high-level visits in this year, among them the visits of Samdech Techo Prime Minister HUN Sen in February and Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei SAY Chhum, President of the Senate, in April, the visit of President YOON Suk Yeol to attend the ASEAN-Related Summits last November in Phnom Penh as well as the official visit of the Deputy PM himself in September last year, during which he co-chaired the Mekong-ROK Foreign Ministers Meeting.
Deputy PM PRAK Sokhonn expressed sincere thanks for the assistance extended to Cambodia by the ROK’s government in socio-economic development and in the fight against Covid-19. He referred with pleasure to the good cooperation on economy, the remarkable increase in bilateral trade, the flow of ROK’s investment to Cambodia, the presence of several well-known Korean companies in the Kingdom, the increasing exports of Cambodian mangos to ROK and the Korean assistance in health sector.
Deputy PM PRAK Sokhonn highlighted Cambodian position on some regional and international issues, particularly on Myanmar crisis and the situation in the Korean Peninsula. Ambassador PARK Heung-kyeong extended congratulations for Cambodia’s successful ASEAN Chairmanship and complimented the leadership and arrangement of the country as the host and chair of the AMM and Related Meeting as well as the ASEAN Summits and Related Summits. He also admired the endeavors undertaken by the Deputy PM as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar. The Deputy PM expressed thanks for ROK’s support and cooperation during the whole year of Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship.
