EARTHQUAKE NEAR NSUNGA TOWN, TANZANIA 11 SEPT

On 11 September 2016, an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck near the city of Nsunga town, Tanzania. Sixteen people have been reported killed, while 200 others have been injured. The earthquake was also felt throughout the Great Lakes region, namely in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that so far no Malaysians were affected in the said earthquake.

The High Commission of Malaysia in Nairobi, Kenya, which is accredited to Tanzania will continue to monitor the situation. Malaysians residing in Tanzania are also advised to communicate with the High Commission of Malaysia in Nairobi and to comply with all instructions and safety advice by the Tanzanian authorities.
