The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department’s air wing carried out a medical evacuation flight (Medevac) to bring an Orang Asli toddler suffering from lung infection to receive treatment at Gua Musang Hospital, here, yesterday (May 17).

According to the public relations officer of the JBPM Northern Region air base, Penang, Assistant Fire Supt Muhammad Akmaluddin Said, the patient, Wawa Diana Azni, three, from Pos Balar, was accompanied by her mother Sariwa Jali, 32, and both were taken aboard an Agusta Westland AW139 helicopter.

“The patient was found to have a fever, cough and flu for the past three days. She also lacks appetite and is less active,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the patient arrived at Gua Musang fire station at 6.25 pm.

“The patient was handed over to the Ministry of Health officials for further action,” he said.

Muhammad Akmaluddin said the operation, involving five crew members, arrived safely at the Northern Region air base, Penang, at 7.25 pm.

“The weather condition throughout the flight was raining in some places and limited visibility with strong winds,” he said.
