First Day of Khmer New Year Celebration Attracts Over 860,000 Visitors

A total of 862,897 people toured Cambodia on April 14, the first day of the three-day Khmer New Year holiday, according to the Ministry of Tourism’s report released this afternoon.

The figure represents an increase by 5.68 percent compared to the first day of Khmer New Year 2019 (The New Year celebrations were cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 threat), it pointed out.

Of the total visitors, it added, 854,654 were local tourists, and 8,243 others were internal foreign tourists.

Among the 25 provinces and capital city, Kampong Chhnang province attracted most of the visitors with some 160,740, followed by Battambang province with 107,254 tourists, Siem Reap province with 107,014, and Pursat province with 83,896, the report said.

Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Siem Reap, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Pailin, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Kandal, Rattanakiri and so on have been organising Sankranta events to attract visitors.
