Floating Garbage Collection Campaign Planned in Phnom Penh

The Ministry of Tourism, everwave GmbH and River Ocean Cleanup have discussed a floating garbage collection campaign in Phnom Penh to support the clean city movement.
The discussion took place here on Mar. 14 between H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and representatives of Germany-based everwave GmbH and River Ocean Cleanup.
The campaign will use German technology-equipped garbage boats, which are capable of quickly identifying locations of garbage via drones and cameras, and of collecting about 20 tonnes of garbage floating on water per day.
According to the ministry, the collected garbage will be separated at the landfill in Phnom Penh organised by everwave GmbH and River Ocean Cleanup. The non-recyclable waste will be converted into energy in a cement plant.
H.E. Thon Khon said that the river clean-up campaign is the first important historical mission for Cambodia to contribute to the clean river, clean city, especially to the clean city contest movement.
The floating garbage collection campaign will be held along the river in Phnom Penh from March to June 2022.
