Foreign Arrivals Up 12 Percent in First Semester

During the first six months of this year, Cambodia received some 2.6 million foreign visitors, up 12.8 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Tourism's report.

Chinese tourists ranked first in the country's tourism market list, with 529,967, up 40 percent, followed by the Vietnamese and the Lao with 392,388 and 224,272, respectively, it pointed out.

The number of Japanese visitors saw an 8 percent increase to 98,314, thanks especially to the launch of Cambodia-Japan direct flight in September last year.

In general, some 1.6 million international tourists visited Cambodia via air, while 1 million others came to the country via road and waterway.

In the same period, 842,008 Cambodian outbound tourists were recorded, an increase by 20.3 percent.

Last year, 5 million overseas tourists visited the Kingdom, a 5 percent year-on-year increase compared to 2015, generating US$3.2 billion income.
