French Researcher Updates Research Progress at Choeung Ek to Permanent DPM

A French delegation of the Ecole Francaise d’ExtrAme-Orient (EFEO) led by its Director of Studies Mr. Oliver de Bernon paid a recent visit to Permanent Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Honorary Chairman of the Supreme National Economic Council H.E. Keat Chhon to update research progress at Choeung Ek, according to local media reports.

Recent study shows that circle structure discovered at Choeung Ek, Phnom Penh is not the same to what EFEO has initially thought as circle village as no relation of circle structure with ceramic kilns found there, said Mr. Oliver de Bernon.

Through excavations in 2015, he added, circle structure that had canal between two high land areas was filled with water before it was abandoned. He highlighted that recently EFEO found additional hypotheses related to soil that was in the middle of the circle structure which makes his study become closer to the above conclusion.

H.E. Keat Chhon welcomed the research progress that EFEO has done so far, mainly the archeological research project at Choeung Ek, financially supported by the Royal Government of Cambodia.
