GBS Iskandar Will Be Key Catalyst For Region’s Economic Development

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) — The Global Business Services (GBS) Iskandar programme will act as a pivotal catalyst to spur economic activities in the region, said Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MIM).

MIM, the master planner and developer of the 902-hectare Medini Iskandar Malaysia (Medini) located in Iskandar Puteri, said the programme would place the city as the newest GBS hub in Southeast Asia.

GBS Iskandar, which is managed by Khazanah National Bhd’s wholly-owned unit, i2M Ventures Sdn Bhd, was launched earlier this month.

It aims to draw RM6.5 billion in investments and to create close to 14,000 high-value and knowledge-based jobs by 2020.

“This region is now a primary destination for diverse global businesses, and locating one’s shared services in Medini will provide a clear advantage to investors seeking to create value and tap growth prospects efficiently,” said MIM Managing Director cum Chief Executive Officer Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad in a statement today.

“Having access to a ready pool of talent and human resource is a crucial success factor for such hubs to maintain a competitive edge,” he added.

With incentives that are unique to the township, increasing accessibility and connectivity, as well as a strategic location and close proximity to Singapore, Medini has the makings of a preferred spot for companies keen to locate their global business service operations in Southeast Asia.
