GDT Collects US$105 Million as Tax Income in February

The General Department of Taxation (GDT) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance last month collected more than 421 billion Riel (over US$105 million), up US$9.54 million (or 9.97 percent) compared to the same period of 2016.

The information was shared by H.E. Kong Vibol, Director General of GDT, during a monthly meeting held at the GDT’s office here in Phnom Penh recently.

The growth of tax revenue derived from an increase in almost all tax items including tax on income (16 percent), tax on salary (53.1 percent), special tax (47.9 percent), while valued-added tax fell by 2.2 percent, he pointed out.

For the first two months of 2017, the tax collection was 1,406 billion Riel (or US$351.58 million), equal 20.49 percent of the target set in the National Budget Law 2017, underlined H.E. Kong Vibol.

The GDT director general recommended all line departments to continue implementing the reform policy and collecting all kinds of tax so as to increase the national income.

He also highly valued and appreciated the tax officials at all levels for their efforts in collecting tax as well as in providing better and effective services to people.

In 2016, GDT collected a total of US$1,497 million as tax income – almost 15 percent or US$194.62 million increase, compared to the previous year.
