Gourmand Cookbook Awards President: “The Taste of Angkor”, a Perfect Example of Ideal Cookbook

“The Taste of Angkor” is a perfect example of an ideal cookbook which reflects history, architecture, traditions, and the richness of Khmer culinary arts that is well-deserved to be shared with our friends around the world through the promotion of Khmer extraordinary cultural heritage of over 1000 years.

The comments were made recently by Gourmand Cookbook Awards President, Mr. Edouard Cointreau.

“The Taste of Angkor”, which was published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was distinguished by Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2022 in two categories: “Best Asian Cuisine Book” and “Heads of State/Food” at the Umeå Food Symposium in Sweden on June 2-5, 2022.

“The Taste of Angkor” has been awarded with Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for two consecutive years.

At the same event, another Khmer cookbook “The Culinary Art of Cambodia” also won the “Special Award of the Jury”.

These accomplishments have contributed to amplifying Cambodia’s national prestige in the international arena through culinary diplomacy, which is one of the cornerstones of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation’s Economic Diplomacy Strategy 2021-2023, the ministry said in a news release on June 8.

“This fresh source of pride will serve as a stepping stone to further Cambodia’s culinary diplomacy, enhance nation branding, and strengthen economic diplomacy strategy implementation as a whole in pursuit of effective and timely realisation of Cambodia’s 2030 and 2050 visions of becoming upper middle-income and high-income country respectively,” the source underlined.

The cookbook, which was unveiled on Jan. 18, 2021 by H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, contains a selection of 38 recipes of Khmer dishes and desserts. Easy-to-follow detailed instructions, encompassing ingredient substitutions of Khmer ingredients that may be hard to source abroad, were the highlight of this artistic culinary book.
