Government Stops Exporting Sands from Koh Kong Province

Ministry of Mines and Energy has decided to stop exporting sands from coastal Koh Kong province to other countries.

The ministry recently released the above decision, justifying that the measure will contribute to preserving the environment as well as hydrology of the areas, including Sre Ambel, Tatai, Trapaingrong and Koh Por.

The government's stand was grounded on a thorough study, according to Mr. Meng Saktheara, spokesperson of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, as cited in a local media report.

The Royal Government of Cambodia had temporarily banned the export of sands from Koh Kong province after observing some evidenced harm of the business.

A comprehensive study was then conducted leading to the decision making not to continue the sand export.

The prohibition, however, was only meant for construction and mud sands, not Silica sand continued the spokesperson.
