High School Exam Kicks Off

The two-day high school exam kicked off this morning in 176 centres in the 25 provinces and capital city.

According to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the first day of the exam went smoothly without any remarkable irregularities.

A total of 101,410 students, of them 50,049 girls, attended this morning's exam, and 1,443 students were absent, it added.

The exam began with history and biology for sciences classes, and earth and environment, and history for social sciences classes, it pointed out.

The highest score will be 500 points while the passing score will increase from 224 points in 2016 to 237 points this year.

Last year, a total of 55,753 out of 89,661 high school students passed the exam or 62.18 percent. Among these successful students, 405 got grade A; 2,801 grade B; 5,595 grade C; 8,835 grade D; and 38,117 grade E.

Cambodia has 4,407 kindergartens, 7,561 primary schools, 1,300 lower secondary schools, and 608 high schools. Besides, there are in total 121 higher education institutions, of which 48 are run by the state, in 20 provinces and capital city. 73 higher education institutions (13 state-owned and 60 private institutions) are under the management of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, while 16 others are under different ministries' and institutions' administration.
