His Majesty the King Appeals to Compatriots to Go to Vote

His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, has in a recent royal message called on all his eligible compatriots to go to the polls this Sunday.

The election on June 4, 2017 is a universal suffrage which is conducted in secrecy in accordance with the liberal democracy, said the monarch, stressing, Therefore, don’t worry about any pressure, intimidation or threats from any individual or any party.

His Majesty the King also appealed to his compatriots to use their right to vote according to their respective conscience.

About 7.8 million � of them 58.3 percent are women and some ten thousands are Buddhist monks � have been registered for the forthcoming Commune/Sangkat Council Election of fourth mandate.

Cambodia is undergoing the 14-day campaign for the local election running until June 2 partaken by twelve political parties � the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), FUNCINPEC Party, League for Democracy Party (LDP), Beehive Democratic Society Party (BDSP), Grassroots Democracy Party (GDP), Khmer National United Party (KNUP), Cambodian Nationality Party (CNP), Republican Democracy Party (RDP), Cambodian Youth Party (CYP), Khmer Power Party (KPP), and Cambodian Indigenous Democracy Party (CIDP) � for 1,646 communes and Sangkat throughout the country.

The previous Commune/Sangkat Council Election was held in 2012. During its third-mandate race, there were 9,203,493 registered voters electing for 1,633 communes/ Sangkat of 11,459 seats.
