I WILL NOT LET TROUBLE IN SBA AFFECT SARAWAK SHUTTLERS – ABDUL KARIM

KUCHING, Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has provided assurances that he would personally look after the welfare of the state shuttlers following the recent turmoil enveloping the Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA).

He added that even though his ministry was not involved in the leadership issue in SBA, they were still monitoring the situation to ensure players remain unaffected, particularly those competing in the upcoming Malaysia Games in August.

‘The (Sarawak) Minister of Sports will look after the Sarawak (badminton) team. I will not let anybody cause issues till the Sarawak badminton contingent is disrupted,’ he told reporters after accompanying Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar on a visit to the Borneo Cultures Museum here today.

The SBA’s leadership squabble occurred when a group of members who were dissatisfied with the results of the association office-bearers’ election held in July 2021 brought the mat
ter to the Kuching High Court, which nullified the election results on May 17 this year.

‘We are not involved in the case, but we respect the court’s decision. I’m not taking sides here. If somebody is happy (with the court’s decision), let them be happy. It doesn’t mean that badminton (in Sarawak) will die,’ Abdul Karim added.
