Iceland Wants to Establish Honorary Consulate in Cambodia

The Government of Iceland has expressed its intention to establish an Honorary Consulate in Phnom Penh to foster friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two countries.

The intention was made known by H.E. Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson, newly appointed Ambassador of Iceland to Cambodia, while presenting his credentials to Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh yesterday.

The Beijing-based ambassador explained that Iceland was a small country with very few consulates in foreign countries and that Cambodia was a tourist destination for Icelanders.

H.E. Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson also thanked Samdech Say Chhum for his hospitality and spoke highly of Cambodia's development, pledging to boost the relations and cooperation between both countries, during his diplomatic mission in the Kingdom.

Samdech Say Chhum conveyed regards from His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, Her Majesty the Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk and other Cambodian leaders to the Icelandic leaders.

The Acting Head of State expressed his optimism with the diplomatic mission of H.E. Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson, which, he added, would result in mutual beneficial exchanges between the two countries at all levels. He also affirmed Cambodia's readiness to cooperate with H.E.
