If Cambodia Already an International Commercial Centre

Rapid-growth of Phnom Penh has provoked discussion whether the capital has already become an international commercial centre.

Local media report cited insights of key players from both government and corporate sectors who agreed that Phnom Penh is heading to that direction.

Director of real estate professional group CBRE Cambodia Ms. Ann Sothida assessed the capital’s commercial status basing on the presence of international corporations which she claimed that 70 out of 500 are here.

With the foundation, Ms. Ann Sothida is positive that Phnom Penh will fully gain its status as an international commercial zone in the next five to ten years.

While sharing the perspective, another real estate expert Mr. Michael S. Nhim, Asia-Pacific Group Director at SIDO Group, sees the strengths of Phnom Penh as the centre of ASEAN geographically as well as with regional and global integration of Cambodia.

H.E. Mey Kalyan, Senior Adviser to the Supreme National Economic Council of Cambodia, as quoted in the report, spoke highly of Phnom Penh’s economic boom, yet encouraged the attention on quality as well.

Figure from Ministry of Commerce indicated that Cambodia exported US$12 billion worth of goods in 2016 alone.
