Illegally Imported Ivories and Other Remains of Wild Animals Found

General Department of Customs and Excise has recently confiscated illegally imported ivories and wild animal's scales, bones and other remains from a dry port in Phnom Penh, according to local media report.

The wild animal's pieces were found hidden in three among over a hundred timbers imported from Mozambique heading to China.

Arriving Phnom Penh on Dec. 15 from international autonomous port in Preah Sihanouk province, the timbers were imported by a company called Cam Transit Import.

Intervention by General Department of Customs and Excise discovered 640 ivories, scales and bones of wild animals weighting around 137 and 82 kilogrammes respectively, and elephant tails of almost 5 kilogrammes.

Confiscated items are being preserved and further legal actions taken to stop such destructing practice for wild lives.
