Incorporation of Khmer Ancient Design into Contemporary Concept Encouraged

Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLUC) has encouraged Cambodian architects to incorporate Khmer ancient designs and styles in their work so as to preserve the country’s unique identity.

Secretary of State for Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction H.E. Phoeung Sophoan called for such attention when speaking at a press conference early this week organised here in Phnom Penh about Cambodia Architect and Decor exhibition 2017.

The ministry, said H.E. Secretary of State, planned to issue a policy to guide the said practice especially the integration of Khmer ancient design concepts among some 2,000 Cambodian architects in a near future.

He added that promoting the Khmer design concept does not only inspire the pride of the nation’s culture, but also potentially attracts cultural tourists, giving its richness and arts and styles.

According to the ministry’s report, construction sector in Cambodia for 2016 rose by 156 percent, comparing to the size in 2015.

Cambodia will host the Architect and Decor exhibition 2017 in the coming September in order to showcase the progress in the area.
