The Republic of India handed over 325,000 doses of Covishield vaccine to the Government and people of the Kingdom of Cambodia at an official ceremony held at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh this morning.
Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Cambodia, presided over the event.
This precious gift, made under the Quad Vaccine Partnership, is a true testament to the friendship and solidarity between Cambodia, India and other members of the Quad Initiative: the U.S., Japan and Australia, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the occasion.
For her part, the Indian ambassador lauded Cambodia’s success in containing the pandemic. “The Royal Government of Cambodia led by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen truly deserves to be praised for vaccinating its people at the fastest rate ever,” she underlined.
The first batch of 200,000 doses arrived in Cambodia yesterday evening, while the rest will reach Phnom Penh before the end of this month.
Covishield is a version of the Oxford-Astra-Zeneca vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
