Information Minister Calls for Cooperation from Media in Promoting SEA Games 2023

Minister of Information H.E. Khieu Kanharith has urged all stakeholders in the media for cooperation in promoting the 32nd SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games to be hosted by Cambodia in 2023.

H.E. Minister made the call at a press conference held here at Morodok Techo National Stadium this morning.

H.E. Khieu Kanharith also encouraged the media to take part in promoting outstanding athletes, especially those with disabilities, as well as key campaigns of the SEA Games 2023 such as Sport: Live in Peace, One Person One Sport, Clean Cambodia, traffic accident reduction, and so on.

For his part, H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and Cambodian SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC), who was also present at the press conference, highlighted the advantages of hosting SEA Games, ranging from enhancement of national reputation to change in citizens’ behaviours.

This is the first time for Cambodia, as one of six founding members, to host this regional sporting event, after 64 years of its inception, he added.

The 32nd SEA Games is scheduled to be held from May 5 to 17, 2023; and Para Games 2023 will start following the SEA Games finishes from June 1 to 10, 2023. About 10,000 people, including 7,000 athletes, coaches and technical sport officers, are expected to join the event with about 40 kinds of sports.

Five capital and provinces have been determined for the sports competitions: Phnom Penh capital and the provinces of Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk, Kep and Kampot.

Tentatively, Phnom Penh will host many types of sports, Siem Reap will accommodate cycling, Preah Sihanouk will be venue for Jet Ski and sailing, Kep will host triathlon, and Kampot will handle traditional boat, canoeing and kayaking competitions.
