Information Minister: Music and Arts Contribute Significantly to Child Education

H.E. Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information, has underlined the importance of child education through arts, while presiding over the closing ceremony of the Music Festival for Children 2017 held at Chaktomuk Theatre, Phnom Penh this morning.

Music and Arts contribute significantly to build children's knowledge and talent along with good morality and virtue, said H.E. Minister.

The Music Festival for Children, created since 2012, is aimed to contribute to enhancing the four basic rights of the child the right to survival through food security, nutrition and health; the right to protection from exploitation and abuse; the right to basic education; and the right to equality within the family through education and child rights training.

Organised by the Ministry of Information in cooperation with various partners, the Music Festival for Children, features a contest of children's songs, melodies and lyrics.

This year's event attracted 27 groups from different public and private schools, communities and NGOs. The group from Milky Way (13th Branch) in Phnom Penh won the first prize of US$2,000 while the two runners up are the group from Wat Bo in Siem Reap province and the group from Kampong Prasat Community with a cash prize of US$1,500 and US$1,000, respectively.
