Initial Operation of Lower Sesan II Hydropower Plant Launched Later This Year

The on-going Lower Sesan II hydropower dam on the Mekong River of the northeastern Stung Treng province is expected to launch its initial operation in November 2017, according to local media report.

With the total estimated cost of more than US$800 million, the hydropower dam will be Cambodia’s largest power supply of its kind, once completed.

In November, underlined the source, the hydropower dam will kick-start its first turbine that will supply the electrical power of 50 megawatts.

There will be eight turbines to power hydroelectric plant expected to generate a total supply of 400 megawatts when the Lower Sesan II project is completed, as planned in late 2018.

The existence of the Lower Sesan II hydropower dam project will not only ensure sufficient power supply in Stung Treng and beyond, but will also bring down current electricity fee in the areas.
