Interior Minister Calls for More Respect of Traffic Law

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng appealed this morning for more respect of traffic law among road users so as to reduce road accidents to the minimum level.

Samdech Sar Kheng, also Chairman of the National Road Safety Committee (NRSC), made the appeal while presiding over in Kampong Speu province the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of National Road No. 51 linking NR5 in Oudong district, Kampong Speu province to NR4 at Thnal Toteung in Ang Snuol district, Kandal province.

If compared 2015 to 2016, traffic accidents saw a decrease by 15 percent, said Samdech Sar Kheng, adding that Cambodia is proud to obtain the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for her success in reducing the number of traffic-related casualties.

According to a report of NRSC, 3,700 cases of traffic accidents were recorded in 2016, killing 1,717 people and injuring 6,607 others, while in 2015 there were 4,600 cases, claiming 2,265 lives and injuring 9,775 people.

Samdech Sar Kheng also took the opportunity to call on people to stay away from drugs.
