Japan Extends Condolences over Loss of Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has issued a statement on the passing of His Royal Highness Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh, President of Supreme Privy Council of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
“On the passing of His Royal Highness Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh, President of Supreme Privy Council of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Government of Japan extends sincere condolences to His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, Royal Families, Royal Government and the people of the Kingdom of Cambodia,” read the statement AKP received this afternoon.
H.R.H. Norodom Ranariddh contributed to the reconstruction and development of Cambodia as the First Prime Minister after the election in 1993 which was held for the first time after the peace agreements until 1997, and as the President of the National Assembly from 1998 to 2006, it added.
H.R.H. Norodom Ranariddh also promoted the peace and recovery of Cambodia while cooperating with Japan and advanced people-to-people exchanges of governments and parliaments between Japan and Cambodia, underlined the same source.
“The Government of Japan mourns the grievous loss, and offers a prayer for the repose of the soul of H.R.H. Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh,” said the statement.
Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh passed away in Paris on Nov. 28, 2021 at the age of 77 years old from illness.
Samdech Krom Preah was born on Jan. 2, 1944. He is the second son of the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk and a half-brother of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.
