In a message, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Hidehisa Horinouchi said this year marks the 30th anniversary of His Majesty the Emperor's accession to the throne and is also the last occasion for Japanese people to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty Akihito as Emperor. His Majesty abdicated today and His Imperial Highness, the Crown Prince Naruhito, will ascend the throne on May 1.

The 30 years of His Majesty's reign have overlapped with the period that started when the peace was pursued and has continued to the present day, and all the positive development we are currently witnessing in Cambodia. His Majesty's reign also covers the period in which the bonds between Japan and Cambodia have been expanded and strengthened significantly.
