Japan’s Grant Aid for Port Development Signed

The Government of Japan has provided some US$13.9 million in grant aid to Cambodia for contributing to the development of Sihanoukville Autonomous Port in Preah Sihanouk province.
The Exchange of Notes and related documents on the grant aid extension was signed by H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and H.E. Mikami Masahiro, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, at the ministry this afternoon.
Under the Economic and Social Development Project, the grant aid will support procurement of two units of Mobile Harbor Cranes for the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port.
The assistance will contribute to upgrade the capacity of the port in handling the container throughput as the rate of container throughput has been increasing, H.E. Mikami said.
“The assistance will improve the capacity of the Sihanoukville port and contribute to Cambodia’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 and further development,” H.E. Mikami Masahiro said.
For his part, H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government for the assistance, stressing that the grant aid will mainly contribute to the Cambodian government’s efforts in accelerating the economic and social development as well as further strengthening the existing bilateral cooperation and traditional friendship of the two countries.
