KOICA Delegates Attend National Conference in Cambodia

Delegates from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) attended a national conference on 40 years: Search for Peace, Justice, and Reconciliation in Cambodia held at Phnom Penh Ecumenical Diakonia Centre, Phnom Penh, yesterday.

The delegation is led by Ms. Kim Ji Yoon, Director General of Multilateral Cooperation & Humanitarian Assistance Department from KOICA Headquarters.

According to KOICA Cambodia Office, attended by nearly 150 participants, including representatives from 10 Cambodian institutions, and over 25 international participants, the event was aimed to share experience on management of genocide-related digitised archives. This conference shall allow the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum to network with national bodies having activities related to Khmer Rouge history and peace-building initiatives, and with similar institutions around the world, and to exchange international perspectives on ethical challenges brought in by digitisation of mass murder/genocide related archives.

This national conference was organised by Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts (MCFA), with support from KOICA and UNESCO within the framework of the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum Archives Preservation and Digitisation Project that has been receiving financial support from KOICA, and it is part of the three-day international conference on Genocide, Memory and Peace being held in Phnom Penh from Aug. 28 to 30, 2019.

As a contribution to the work to preserve and digitise the archives at Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, KOICA has decided to support UNESCO in implementing a project entitled The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum Archives Preservation and Digitisation Project with the total amount of US$1,150,000 to be implemented from 2014 to 2019. This project is being conducted under the strong partnership among KOICA, UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and Toul Sleng Genocide Museum of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
