Four (4) Cambodian Government Officials who have successfully completed a Master’s Degree at Hallym University and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) through KOICA Scholarship Programme received their certificates from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Cambodia Office on April 29.
According to a press release of KOICA AKP received this afternoon, two students, Ms. CHEA Navin from the Royal University of Agriculture of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), and Mr. KEO Hak from the Ministry of Rural Development (MRD), have successfully completed their studies and passed the Thesis Appraisal required for the “Master of Public Policy (Major in Climate Change Policy)” at the Graduate School, Hallym University in the City of Chuncheon, GangWon-Do, the Republic of Korea.
While other two, Mr. NEY Sivansak, Chief of Section of Procurement Department from Electricité du Cambodge (EDC), and Mrs. SOEUN Kannika, Acting Head of Division of Securities and Exchange Regulator of Cambodia (SERC) under Non-bank Financial Services Authority (NBFSA), have successfully completed their studies and passed the Thesis Appraisal required for the “Master of Business Administration (Majoring in Social Entrepreneurship)” from August 2020 to February 2022 at the Graduate School of Management, the College of Business, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.
Mr. RHO Hyunjun, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office, welcomed and congratulated them on their accomplishment. “Despite the difficulties amid COVID-19 situation, KOICA has pledged to continue assisting Cambodia and provided more scholarships and training opportunities over the past years,” said the country director.
KOICA’s CIAT (Capacity Improvement & Advancement for Tomorrow), a fellowship programme, is Korea’s leading human resources development (HRD) training programme where KOICA invites civil officials, engineers, researchers, and policy makers in developing countries who will lead economic and social growth of their countries, and provides capacity building trainings by sharing Korea’s experience and technology for development.
Under the KOICA’s CIAT scheme, there are a short-term programme such as single/multi-country general training, and a long-term program which is usually Scholarship Programme (Master’s and Ph.D).
The KOICA Scholarship Programme is one of the prestigious fully-funded scholarship schemes provided by the Government of the Republic of Korea to KOICA’s partner countries. The programme started in Cambodia in 1994. It aims to share Korea’s unique development experiences and knowledge with Cambodia and contribute to Cambodia’s long-term development needs.
To accomplish this mission, KOICA has been operating master’s degree programme with leading 20 Korean universities in the fields of agriculture, rural development, education, government and technology, environment and energy.
“KOICA will continue to support and implement programmes in Cambodia that target the development of human resources. From 1994 to 2021, KOICA Cambodia Office supported over 3,368 government officials. Among them, 207 are KOICA’s Scholarship Programme trainees,” underlined the press release. .
