Korea Eyes Agricultural and Food Package Industry in Cambodia

Korean investors and businessmen are seeking opportunities for investment in cooperation with local people in the agricultural sector and food package industry as their key business, said H.E. Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre.

Addressing to the Trade Facilitation Workshop for Cambodian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), where Korean businessmen and experts presented the method of package technology to local MSMEs, H.E. Lee Hyuk said this key will help and strengthen the capacity of the Cambodian agricultural and food industries.

This idea will help increase Cambodia's agricultural products and strengthen their quality in response to foreign markets' requirements, he added.

H.E. Sam Sareirath, Under-Secretary of State for Commerce, said this will contribute with Cambodia to addressing the gap of agricultural processing industry and food package for high quality product and for export.

It is important for local SMEs to learn and upgrade their production techniques to improve quality and competitiveness for export to international markets, he underlined.

With the participation of potential 13 companies from Korea, the workshop features one-to-one business consultation on topics of interest to establish more sustainable and trusted collaboration.

Cambodia's exports to South Korea were valued at US$261 million and its imports from the country reached US$438 million last year, according to the figures from the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce.
