Korea Reaffirms Continued Support for Cambodia’s Development

The Republic of Korea has reaffirmed its position to continue to support Cambodia’s development.
The reaffirmation was made by visiting H.E. Koo Yun-cheol, Minister for Government Policy Coordination, Prime Minister’s Office of the Republic of Korea during a meeting with H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC), at the CDC’s office in Phnom Penh on Mar. 30.
On the occasion H.E. Chhieng Yanara warmly welcomed H.E. Koo Yun-cheol and expressed his appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Korea and its people for the strong cooperation and partnerships that have been contributing to the socio-economic development of Cambodia.
The CRDB/CDC secretary general highlighted the impressive achievements of the Royal Government of Cambodia, under the wise and visionary leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, for the successful and effective implementation of government measures and intervention to address the COVID-19 pandemic and reopen the country across all sectors.
In addition, H.E. Chhieng Yanara informed the Korean delegation about the Strategic Framework and Programmes for Economic Recovery in the context of living with COVID-19 in a new normal (2021-2023) which focuses on three main pillars: Recovery, Reform, and Resilience.
H.E. Koo Yun-cheol expressed his profound gratitude in undertaking the mission in Cambodia and highly appreciated the rapid development of Cambodia. He stated that Cambodia is a strong partner and a high priority country in development cooperation and reaffirmed its position to continue to support Cambodia’s development.
From 1996 until 2022, he pointed out, the Republic of Korea has disbursed approximately US$431 million in grant to support four main sectors such as Education, Transportation, Rural Development, Water Management and Health/Hygiene.
The cooperation between the two countries has constantly strengthened with the significant increase in ODA over the last five years and it is estimated to keep rising in the future.
In conclusion, H.E. Chhieng Yanara reiterated his sincere appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Korea for its continued support to Cambodia and praised the strong bilateral cooperation and relations between the two countries. H.E. Minister wished H.E. Koo Yun-cheol success in his mission in Cambodia.
