MAFF Monitors Fish Amount in Pursat

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries delegation has recently monitored water level and amount of fish at a critical area called Raing Tel of Tonle Sap Lake located in Bakan district, Pursat province.

Secretary of State for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries H.E. Nao Thuok expressed his concern over continuing less water at mangrove forests in the area leading to less fish.

Shallow water, he said, only deep enough to inundate and kill weeds is contaminating the water unfavorable for the fish.

Fish is therefore trying to avoid the contaminated water and fleeing to the inner part of Tonle Sap Lake where they then will be eaten by bigger fish, he added.

In order to address this, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has requested Fisheries Administration to organise a meeting to resolve the problem in order to increase the number of fish during the coming fishing season as much as possible for local demands.
