Malaysia’s Division One Win Due To Injection Of Fund By MOYAS – MRU

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) - Malaysia's emergence as Division One champions of the Asian Rugby Championship (ARC) is due to injection of RM165,500 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYAS).

Malaysian Rugby Union (MRU) president Datuk Amiruddin Embi said the success could not be achieved without the support from MOYS, the National Sports Council (NSC) and other stakeholders.

"Soon after Malaysia won the Division Two title last year, MOYAS injected RM327,500 into the MRU to prepare the seven and fifteen a side teams for international tournaments this year," he said a statement Wednesday.

The MRU received RM250,000 from MOYAS via the NSC for organising the tournament which earned the praise of Asia Rugby president Koji Tokumasu, who was present at the tournament.

Amiruddin said the MRU received total allocation of RM577,500 from MOYAS via the NSC for various activities under the association this year.

The balance of RM422,500 of the RM1 million allocation will be distributed to the MRU by MOYAS based on the working paper presented to the NSC.

Malaysia created history by winning the Division One title after beating Singapore 40-20 in the final held at the Selangor Royal Club in Bukit Kiara.
