Minister of Agriculture Supports Home Grown Fruits and Vegetables

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) supports initiative to promote home grown fruits and vegetables toward food security, nutrition and household income.

On behalf of the ministry, H.E. Ty Sokhun, Secretary of State for MAFF, underlined the message when chairing the launch of Cambodia Horticulture Advancing Income and Nutrition (CHAIN) Project recently here in Phnom Penh.

As shared by Ms. Carin Salerno, Country Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for Cambodia, high economic performance of Cambodia currently is driving demand for safe local fruits and vegetables.

The implementation of CHAIN, she added, will contribute to ensuring food security and nutrition for over 72,000 Cambodians in Kratie, Stung Treng, Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchey provinces by 2022.

According to H.E. Ty Sokun, the Royal Government of Cambodia is pushing up the amount of fruits and vegetables domestically grown from the current 50 percent.

With the commitment, the CHAIN project funded by SDC is strongly welcomed.
