Minister of Information Presides Over an Event on LGBTIQ

Cambodian Minister of Information H.E. Khieu Kanharith presided over here this morning an Advocacy Dialogue for LGBTIQ Pride Week and International Day Against Homophobia and Trans-phobia (IDAHOT) in Cambodia.

At the forum, H.E. Khieu Kanharith highlighted the legal rights for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTIQ) group in the country.

On his social media, H.E. Minister said there are about 6,000 LGBTIQ couples in Cambodia.

Last year, the Council of Ministers’ Secretary of State and Spokesperson H.E. Phay Siphan expressed the government’s support for LGBTIQ people.

Cambodian society does not discriminate against LGBTIQ people No laws discriminate against them, he said. LGBTIQ people go to work and pay taxes like everyone else, so they have the right to participate fully in society. If a gay couple wants a marriage certificate, they should apply for one.
