Ministry of Health Pledges to Expand Treatment Service for Drug Addicts

Ministry of Health is expanding its scope of treatment service provision for drug addicts across Cambodia in 2018.

The pledge was made here recently by Lok Chumteav Dr. Or Vandin, Director General of Technical General Department of the Ministry of Health, when chairing a workshop on implementation policy for community-based drug addict treatment at an outsourced.

It is expected that the effort will be able to support and cure about 20,000 illicit drug addicts officially recorded.

According to the director general, the Royal Government of Cambodia has enabled 419 treatment locations in 2017, from only 177 in 2016.

She also called for good cooperation among concerned technical teams to ensure quality treatment service provision, and for further awareness raising among the public on the availability of the facilities.

Record shows that about 1,000 and some 3,000 drug addicts received treatment service in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
