Ministry of Mines and Energy: Sand Dredging Licenses Granted Transparently

Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced to grant sand dredging licenses to private companies transparently in order to ensure environmental protection.

H.E. Dith Tina, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Mines and Energy, made the affirmation on May 25.

Before allowing private companies to dredge sand, there is a clear control of technical materials and dredging process, followed by a public auction, as well as a study on environmental impact assessment, he underlined.

For license awarding and auction procedures, added the spokesperson, they are based on areas with high potential, along with standardised companies. For areas with no single bid, the ministry will allow the existing company to continue its business, he said.

According to a report of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, over 10 licenses have been issued for sand dredging along river. For the first three months of this year, sand dredging businesses generate some US$1.62 million as state revenue.
