MoC Widens Markets for Cambodian Silk Products

Ministry of Commerce is investing extra effort to expand the markets of Cambodian silk products as well as to promote its price, according to local media report.

Minister of Commerce H.E. Pan Sorasak was quoted in the source saying that the ministry has encouraged the assurance of silk product quality and at the same time explored various international markets for the products.

Promoting Cambodian silk, he added, means supporting women as mostly women, in particular from poor households, are the producers of the products.

In the same source, founder of SentoSaSilk Ms. Seng Takakneary called for the expansion of local silkworm farms – key raw material for silk production – in order to avoid imports, thus reducing cost.

So far through national and international trade fairs and exhibitions, according to H.E. Pan Sorasak, the Ministry of Commerce has introduced Cambodian silk products to the markets.

Widening the silk products, added the minister, is not only about sustaining incomes and jobs, but also promoting Cambodian identity.
