MoEYS Reminder of Damaging Valentine’s Day When Misinterpreted

As the Feb. 14 Valentine’s Day is nearing, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) has lately released an instruction for academic institutions to monitor and remind their students not to misinterpret the event and misconduct themselves.

Not the first of its kind, the instruction signed by H.E. Hang Chuon Naron encouraged schools to circulate explanation about the original meaning of the Valentine’s Day mistaken by some students as a day for lovers.

The schools, added the document, need to critically monitor the attendance of the students in particular during that day.

It also encouraged the use of youth council and teacher-parent mechanisms to promote proper behaviour of the students.

Experience showed that misinterpreting the Valentine’s Day, some youths in couple had sex on that day – which did not only exemplify a culturally damaging influence, but also left behind sorrows and beyond.
