MoI Chairs Inter-Ministerial Discussion Meeting on Anti-Human Trafficking

Ministry of Interior has recently facilitated an inter-ministerial discussion meeting about anti-human trafficking achievements and planning here in Phnom Penh.

According to Deputy General Director of General Department of Immigration Gen. Khut Sambo, almost four million Cambodians traveling overseas in 2016 for both short- and long-term employments.

Some 3.9 Cambodians, he said, travelled through the country’s international 24 border gates with passports and boarding passes to work in other countries and the figure can increase in 2017.

Secretary of State for Interior H.E. Ms. Chou Bun Eng who presided over the session shared the update that the Royal Government of Cambodia and concerned stakeholders in 2016 addressed incidents happening to 815 Cambodians in twelve countries.

Of them, 366 were victims of human trafficking, while 298 others encountered work accidents; and all of them have been sent back safely to Cambodia.
