“Mondulkiri Wild Honey” Geographical Indication Status Officially Launched

“Mondulkiri Wild Honey” with protected Geographical Indication (GI) status was officially launched in a move to improve the quality, packaging, promote the branding of “Mondulkiri Wild Honey”, and to participate in the preservation of protected forest as tourist target.
The launching event of the “Mondulkiri Wild Honey” Geographical Indication, took place on Mar. 27 at Sen Monorom Park, Sen Monorom city, Mondulkiri province under the presidency of H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce.
The registration of “Mondulkiri Wild Honey” GI is aimed to protect the intellectual property rights for Mondulkiri Wild Bee Conservation Association, which is the legitimate owner of “Mondulkiri Wild Honey” GI, under the Law on Geographical Indication of Cambodia, and to prevent the counterfeited product of “Mondulkiri Wild Honey” on local and international markets.
This will contribute to conserving the traditional knowledge and know-how of farmers and indigenous Bunong Community in Mondulkiri province with establishing the Book of Specification of “Mondulkiri Wild Honey” GI, said the ministry.
Additionally, the registration is also to improve the quality, packaging, promote the branding of “Mondulkiri Wild Honey” GI and to participate in preservation of protected forest as tourist target as well as to increase the value chain, create jobs and to improve the living standard of the local farmers.
Commerce Minister H.E. Pan Sorasak said that the protected Mondulkiri Wild Honey GI product contributes to identifing the unique and traditional measure of people in Mondulkiri province on wild honey production.
“The ‘Mondulkiri Wild Honey’ mark is not only the product of the Mondulkiri Wild Bee Conservation Association, but will also be part of the promotion of the Cambodian people’s reputation and traditional culture in the international arena,” H.E. Pan Sorasak stressed.
A long side of the launching event, there was an exhibition of “Mondulkiri wild honey”, “Kampot pepper”, “Kampong Speu palm sugar” and “Koh Trong pomelo”, and products bearing the collective mark: “Preah Vihear Rice” and “Kampong Thom pounded rice” and other products.
