Monkeypox: Five People in Contact with Nigerian Man, But No One Infected

As of July 24, Cambodia has detected no case of Monkeypox infected from the Nigerian man who has been confirmed positive for the virus in Thailand and has fled for Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Or Vandine, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health told AKP this afternoon.
“Up to now, we have found five people coming in close contact with the Nigerian national, but they are just related cases, and we have advised them to stay isolated to monitor their health while waiting for the official confirmation,” said H.E. Dr. Or Vandine, also Chairwoman of the National Ad-hoc Commission for COVID-19 Vaccination.
All the five have not yet shown any signs of infection, however, they need to be isolated at their respective homes, monitor their own health and report to the medical team for any suspicious symptoms, she added.
Besides, H.E. Dr. Or Vandine called on all those in contact with the Nigerian man to contact the nearest health officers or to seek medical attention or call 115 as necessary.
The Nigerian national, named Osmond Chihazirim, 27, was found by Cambodian competent authorities on July 23, at 17:30, at a guesthouse located on Street 430 in Sangkat Tuol Tompoung II, Khan Chamkar Mon, Phnom Penh, and sent to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, after entering Cambodia on July 22 from Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency – NNT – the Nigerian tourist was confirmed positive for Monkeypox in Phuket province last week when he was admitted to a private hospital with fever, coughing, sore throat, and a runny nose along with genital rashes and lesions that had spread to other parts of his body and face. The patient refused to cooperate with authorities and disappeared from his hotel on July 21.
