Mumbai rains bring normal life to a crawl on Friday; road, rail, air traffic affected

Normal life in Mumbai came to a near-halt on Friday as incessant rain inundated many parts of the city, affecting both traffic and livelihood. It being a Friday, those who could afford it decided to extend their weekend by a day, while others were seen wading through waters on their way to work or stuck in vehicles that themselves were stranded in traffic jams along thoroughfares.

Early reports on Friday said several low-lying areas in the city had become water-logged. As the day progressed, the inundation spread to other parts of the city, severely affecting all forms of traffic.

Trains arriving in Mumbai were delayed by at least half an hour, while local trains were even slower, since train lines had become water-logged in several parts of the city. At least six flights coming in were delayed, while another was diverted. Taking off of planes was also affected, with departure of several flights delayed.

The weatherman has predicted that Mumbai and the coastal Konkan region will receive heavy rainfall over the next two days.
