National Workshop on Developing National Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Framework

Ministry of Public Works and Transport is organising a four-day national workshop on the development of a National Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Framework here in Phnom Penh.

Lasting from Aug. 6 to 9, the gathering is made possible through cooperation with International Maritime Organisation (IMO) aiming to capacitate the officials from concerned government bodies and petroleum companies about preventive techniques and response to oil spill.

The exercise is expected to lay foundation for Cambodia to create a National Committee for Oil Spill Preparedness and Response (OSPR) and draft National Emergency Plan for it.

Cambodia's National Assembly on June 17 endorsed draft law on Petroleum and Petroleum Production Management, which consists of nine chapters and 72 articles to ensure efficiency, transparency and accountability for sustainable extraction and management of the resource and build confidence among potential investors.

The national workshop on the development of a National Oil Spill Preparedness and Response Framework indicates Cambodia's readiness in the management for the industry.
