At least 95 factories and enterprises have restarted their production after Phnom Penh capital and Takhmao town of Kandal province geographical areas were divided into Red, Dark Yellow, and Yellow zones.
The reopening factories are in the Yellow zones, said H.E. Heng Sour, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, adding that 15,000 workers have resumed their jobs.
“The resumption of production chain in factories and enterprises is a good sign in the manufacturing sector although the COVID-19 pandemic has not yet ended,” he added.
H.E. Heng Sour continued that up to 50 percent of workers could resume their works and the rest remained affected by the lockdown in the Red and Dark Yellow zones.
Recently, the government and Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia have appealed to international buyers for understanding over the lateness of goods delivery as factories and enterprises have temporary shut down their production to respect the government’s lockdown measures.
Red zones are areas with serious community spread of COVID-19, while Dark Yellow and Yellow zones with moderate and mild COVID-19 community spread, respectively.
