NEC Plans to Prepare Special Ballot Papers for the Blind in 2017 Election

The National Election Committee (NEC) has announced to prepare special ballot papers for blind people so that they can vote by themselves in the commune/Sangkat council election in 2017.

The announcement was made by Mr. Mom Soth, Director of NEC’s Training and Education Department, at a training course on Disability and Election held on Dec. 5 at NEC office.

NEC is also planning to produce educational spot on the upcoming election for the blind and deaf/mute people, he added.

Mom Soth said NEC welcomes this full-day training and the cooperation from partner organisations and institutions.

Ngin Saoroth, Executive Director of Cambodian Disabled People’s Organisation, said the training is to provide the participants with awareness on disability and assistance to people with disabilities during voter registration and election process, as well as to push for a policy on disability in NEC.
